The more laws and order are made prominent, the more thieves and robbers there will be.

An integral being knows without going, sees without looking, and accomplishes without doing.

Ambition has one heel nailed in well, though she stretch her fingers to touch the heavens.

He who knows himself is intelligent.

One who speaks does not know One who knows does not speak.

To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.

Perfect tranquillity is the way of heaven and earth.

Therefore the sage holds in his embrace the one thing (of humility), and manifests it to all the world.

The truth is not always beautiful, nor beautiful words the truth.

Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.

One who practices virtue and selflessness should not hold any particular idea in his mind about how to fulfill his virtue, for virtue is the very nature of one's being.

The best man in his dwelling loves the earth. In his heart, he loves what is profound. In his associations, he loves humanity. In his words, he loves faithfulness. In government, he loves order. In handling affairs, he loves competence. In his activities, he loves timeliness. It is because he does not compete that he is without reproach.
